I hope many of you enjoyed grilled Unagi, ウナギ, eel last Saturday. I asked you a questions in the previous blog. Did you find out what sea eel means? That's Anago, 穴子. As the matter of fact, it's my favorite sushi topping. A sushi cook grills the slice of sea eel slightly just before they put it on top of the rice. Therefore it is soft and tender. It literally melts in your mouth.
By the way, tuna is Maguro,マグロ, but do you know how to say the expensive, Toro, トロ in English? It's called fatty tuna. What about Ikura, イクラ? It's slmon roe. Fish eggs are called roe. Why don't you try some Toro or Ikura, along with Anago sushi next time you go to a sushi restaurant?
